⚙️ The Most Requested Coating: Why Choose It?
Electrolytic galvanizing is by far the most common and requested surface coating on the market. The reason for its success lies in the perfect balance between cost and performance: it guarantees good corrosion resistance characteristics at a generally low price.
🔋 How Does the Electrolytic Process Work?
As the name suggests, it is a chemical-physical process that uses electric current. By passing electricity through a galvanic bath, a thin and uniform layer of zinc is deposited onto the steel surface.
The Principle of the Sacrificial Anode
The real strength of galvanizing lies in the very nature of zinc:
- Reactivity: Zinc is more reactive than steel (the substrate).
- Cathodic Protection: The zinc layer undergoes oxidation processes first, “sacrificing” itself instead of the underlying product.
- Integrity: As long as zinc is present on the surface, the steel remains protected from rust, even in the event of small scratches on the coating.
🎨 Customization: Resistance and Colors
There is no single type of galvanizing. The wide range of products and passivations used in this process allows for different results based on the customer’s needs:
- Corrosion Resistance: It is possible to modulate the thickness and type of sealing to increase the hours of resistance in salt spray tests.
- Aesthetics and Coloring: Depending on the post-galvanizing treatment (passivation), different finishes can be achieved, such as the classic white (bluish) galvanizing or yellow (tropicalized) galvanizing.
